How to make pizza on the Blackstone griddle

A griddle, as opposed to an oven, cooks pizza differently. Step-by-step directions for preparing Blackstone griddle pizza are supplied. You may change them to suit your preferences and improve the pizza.

Pizza prep and essentials on a Blackstone griddle

First, gather all of the pizza ingredients. You will require the following equipment:

  • A griddle cooking dome that transforms your griddle into an oven.
  • A broad flat spatula for flipping or rotating your pizza dough while it cooks.
  • A pizza peel is used to move stretched pizza dough to the griddle.

Step 1: Prepare the Pizza Dough

Aside from letting it sit for 12-24 hours, it’s best to follow the right dough-making procedure. However, if you want to make pizza on the Blackstone Griddle the same day without resting your pizza dough for 12-24 hours, use this procedure:

Prepare your pizza dough according to a trusted recipe, and use appropriate equipment, such as a pizza dough mixer.

Allow the pizza dough to rise for two hours at room temperature or until it has doubled in size.

Use it right now, or refrigerate or freeze it for later. (It can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.)

To make pizza the next day (or later):

If you are not going to bake the pizza that day, place the wrapped pizza dough in the refrigerator overnight to rise gently.

Take the dough out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for at least 1 hour before making the pizza.

Note: You may also use premade pizza crusts rather than creating your own dough.

Step 2: Cook Meat and Veggies on the Large Area of the Blackstone Griddle

Cook your meat or chicken on one side of the griddle’s cooking surface and your vegetables on the other. That is the advantage of utilizing a Griddle. On its huge cooktop, you can conduct all aspects of pizza preparation at the same time.

Please sauté your vegetables on your Blackstone griddle top so that they are not left uncorked on the pizza top. When they are finished, take them off the top and place them in a dish.

Step 3: Heat up the Blackstone Griddle for the Pizza Crust.

When your topping is ready, begin cooking the crust. To begin, clean the griddle of any food debris and add a few drops of oil to reseason the griddle.

Preheat your Blackstone griddle or grill to 350°F to 400°F or medium-high heat.

Allow it to thoroughly preheat. When your griddle surface is ready, transfer your stretched pizza dough to it with a pizza peel and cover it with a griddle dome or lid.

Allow it to cook for 3-5 minutes without lifting the cover, depending on the thickness of the pizza dough. Now, from the button, flip it to see whether it is cooked. At this time, use your spatula to inspect the status of the pizza dough below.

When done, turn it over and continue to cook without covering it with the dome. Turn the heat down low and add toppings as needed during the course. Make sure to regulate the temperature when putting toppings to the cooked side of the crust so the bottom doesn’t burn.

Step 4: Toppings

This step must be completed quickly; or otherwise, the opposite side of your pizza dough will be fully baked by the time you add the toppings.

Begin by adding pizza sauce to your Blackstone griddle pizza, then top with mozzarella cheese. Add all of your vegetables and chicken pieces on top of the cheese, then top with as much mozzarella and cheddar cheese as you desire, but don’t overdo it; overloading might result in a soggy pizza.

Step 5: Allow the topping and crust to brown evenly.

After you’ve added everything:

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  • Cover it with a pizza dome and bake it for 7-10 minutes, or longer(depending on how long it takes to melt all of the cheese and crisp up the bottom of the pizza dough.)
  • Make sure the top isn’t burning or overcooking the bottom of the crust.

If the cheese is melted and the crust is golden after 7 minutes, remove it; otherwise, leave it for another 5 minutes.

Check the temperature of the top and sides of the pizza dough with an infrared thermometer. Heat is frequently distributed more evenly around the grate in open regions than in the thicker middle.

If required, use an infrared thermometer to adjust the griddle temperature on the stove.

Please do not rush to remove your pizza after it has finished cooking; you may destroy it. Allow a few minutes for the Griddle surface to cool somewhat.

Using a sturdy spatula, carefully remove the pizza and place it on a cutting board. Now, slice it up and sprinkle it with fresh parmesan cheese. Finally, plate the griddle pizza and serve.

How Long Should You Cook Homemade Pizza Dough on a Griddle?

To cook properly, homemade pizza dough without toppings takes around 10 to 12 minutes.

Once one side of the pizza dough has been baked, turn it and add all of your toppings before allowing it to finish cooking. To test the doneness of your pizza dough, poke a wooden stick right into it.

If it comes out neatly and the pizza crust is finished without any dough fragments. However, you must heat until the top of the pizza dough browns. However, keep an eye on the pizza’s bottom.

If you see that the bottom is becoming overdone, reduce the heat to low (200 °F). Remove the pizza dough off the griddle surface after the top is baked and served.

How to Store Leftover Blackstone Pizza

You can keep the leftovers to heat up later. First, completely cool the leftover pizza.

The best way is to stack and wrap:

  • On a dinner plate, arrange a single layer of slices and cover with a layer of wax, freezer, foil, or parchment paper.
  • Continue stacking, alternating between pizza and paper, until all of the pizza is on the dish.
  • Wrap everything in plastic wrap and set it in the refrigerator.

That’s it! Put into a container that won’t let air in and store in the fridge for up to 6 days.

Reheating Pizza on Blackstone Griddle

Reheat the griddle pizza on a Blackstone griddle dome lid that has been warmed. Place the remaining pizza on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated 425°F oven until the required temperature is reached.

Looking for a fast reheating option? Microwave for 30 to 60 seconds on a microwave-safe dish.

Can a frozen pizza be cooked on a Blackstone griddle?

Yes, a frozen pizza may be cooked on a Blackstone griddle. To begin, take the pizza out of the freezer ahead of time to enable it to defrost. Remove all of the pizza’s wrappings and let them aside at room temperature for 20 to 25 minutes.

Preheat the grill to 400°F, then set the frozen pizza in the center and cover with a pizza dome. Allow it to simmer for 5 to 7 minutes or until it begins to bubble around the edges. Cook until the crust is golden and crispy on the other side.

Is The Pizza Oven still available from Blackstone?

No, Blackstone has discontinued its pizza oven line. The best part is that you don’t have to use the Blackstone Pizza Oven to create pizza on the Griddle.

Cooking the pizza on the griddle produces the same flavor and taste.

Is it possible to cook pizza dough on Blackstone?

Yes, you can cook a pizza on a Blackstone – and it’s delicious!

How do you make pizza on the Blackstone griddle?

Place your frozen pizza in the center of the griddle at the same temperature and cook for 5-7 minutes. After 5 to 7 minutes, rotate the griddle dome and turn the pizza to ensure equal cooking on all sides. Inspect the pizza crust to ensure it has uniformly browned sides.

How long do you cook pizza on a griddle?

It takes roughly around 15-20 minutes. Allow the pizza to cook at 350-400 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes, then check it every two minutes. The pizza should be done in about 15 minutes when the cheese has melted, the sauce has bubbled, and the bottom has a uniform brown hue.

Can I use a pizza stone on a Blackstone griddle?

Yes, you absolutely can. I recommend that you use a pizza stone. When you begin preheating the griddle, place the pizza stone on it. When you place the dough crust on the stone, it should be nice and hot.

Can you grill pizza on a cast iron griddle, skillet, or grill?

Yes, without a doubt. First, heat your skillet or grill to 350°F to 400°F or set it to medium-high heat.

Once your Griddle surface is ready, move your stretched pizza dough to it with a pizza peel and cover it with a griddle dome or a lid. Put your frozen pizza in the middle of the hot grill and let it cook for about 5 to 7 minutes.

After 5 to 7 minutes, move the dome of the griddle and turn the pizza around so that it cooks evenly on all sides.

Check the pizza’s crust in the middle to ensure that both sides are evenly browned. Let it cook until the cheese melts and the crust gets crunchy. With a pizza peel, carefully take the pizza out of the oven and cut it while it’s still hot.

How hot does a Blackstone griddle get?

According to my study, a heated Blackstone griddle can reach temperatures of over 600 and even 700 degrees Fahrenheit.

In comparison, the typical griddle temperature for cooking on high is 640 degrees Fahrenheit (317 degrees Celsius). It would take around 8-9 minutes to attain such a temperature.

That is why an infrared or LED food thermometer should be used to continuously check the temperatures of your griddle while you cook to avoid overcooking, undercooking, or burning the food.
