Faqs

Do you cut the stems off broccolini?

Simply eliminate the lowest 1/4 inch of the stalks and cut any stems thicker than 1/2 inch in half lengthwise to prepare broccolini. Broccolini, particularly its slender stalks, cooks faster than broccoli; you’ll normally need to cut the cooking time by 1 to 2 minutes.

You don’t have to do this, but I throw away florets with too many blossoms. They are edible and you could eat them without issue.

Are you supposed to cook the leaves on broccolini?

Broccoli leaves may be eaten raw or cooked in various ways; heat makes them sweeter. Younger broccoli leaves are sensitive enough to mix uncooked into a salad or tuck into a sandwich if picked from the plant.

What part of broccolini do you use?

The entire vegetable, from the stems and florets to the little yellow blossoms that bloom on mature plants, can be eaten. Broccolini can be consumed either raw or cooked. A fast sauté in a hot skillet with a little oil or a brief dip in boiling water to blanch the stems are the best cooking options.

What is healthier broccoli or broccolini?

When it comes to nutrition, broccolini is the clear winner. Broccolini has slightly more phosphorus, manganese, and calcium than broccoli, which are important for bone health. However, it outperforms broccoli in vitamin A content, delivering nearly four times as much.
