How do you steam frozen broccoli in the microwave?

If your frozen broccoli isn’t “steamable,” meaning it can’t be cooked directly in the bag, you’ll need to steam it in a glass dish that can go in the microwave.

In a dish that can be microwaved, put about 2 cups of frozen broccoli (or a 10 to 12-ounce bag). Fill the dish’s bottom with water to a depth of approximately an inch. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes on HIGH power in the microwave under a glass top. 10 minutes for more tender broccoli, 8 minutes for sharper broccoli.

I only add butter and a touch of salt once the broccoli has finished cooking. Before serving, I stirred everything together after allowing the butter to melt.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups frozen broccoli
  • dash of salt
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Flavoring Frozen Broccoli Florets

There are so many ways to spice this delectable meal! Here are some suggestions:

  • If you are a vegan or on a Keto diet, season it with Italian seasoning, Taco seasoning, or Cajun seasoning.
  • Pour in some butter. When in doubt, put some butter on it. With the addition of butter, the recipe will no longer be vegan, but it will remain Keto.
  • Have you considered frozen broccoli and cheese? After adding butter to the broccoli, sprinkle it with shredded cheese!

Crisp or Tender Broccoli?

We prefer our broccoli softer when it’s served as a side dish, so I cook it for longer. In our microwave, I discovered that 10 minutes produces the ideal soft broccoli (which is 1500 watts).

Then, I enjoy adding a pat of unsalted butter and a splash of salt on top.

The vegetable stir fry I do in the microwave for rice or noodles, on the other hand, I like a touch crispier. Therefore, I’ll just cook it for 7-8 minutes when I steam it.

What’s the difference between Broccoli Cuts and Florets?

I always remember to get broccoli florets. Crowns are the culprits. If the label only says “broccoli cuts,” you won’t receive any beautiful florets or “trees,” as we like to call the chopped-up broccoli.

Broccoli slices are a great purchase for making a casserole like broccoli cheese casserole or just adding broccoli that will be mashed up into a meal. I wouldn’t say I particularly enjoy combining it with broccoli as a side dish.

I frequently buy broccoli florets, and “baby broccoli” is great if you want your broccoli to be delicate like we do.

Picsweet sells bags of frozen baby broccoli in the form of small florets that steam up tender and delicious.

FAQs

How do you keep leftover broccoli?

Cooked broccoli should be stored in a shallow, airtight container or tightly wrapped in foil before keeping it in the fridge. Cooked broccoli may be kept properly for 3 to 5 days. To consume, reheat in the microwave for about 1 minute.

What should you serve with steamed broccoli?

Steamed broccoli is a versatile side dish that works well with virtually anything. You name it: beef, cheese, chicken, duck, egg, pasta, pesto, prawns, rice, salami, tahini, tofu, turkey, yogurt. You may include a nutritious and adaptable meal on your menu!

Is it preferable to microwave broccoli or boil it?

Microwaving the broccoli is preferable to steaming it over boiling water. Because some nutrients may still leach into the water and be wasted. Furthermore, microwaved broccoli is significantly faster than waiting for a pot of water to boil on the stove.

Is it OK to microwave broccoli?

Absolutely. It’s one of my favorite ways to prepare broccoli, and it’s unquestionably the quickest and easiest. If you don’t overcook it, the broccoli will be crisp-tender and vivid green.
